Creating Your Own Kitchen Bar Stool Cushions

October 11th, 2010

If the main home activities center around the kitchen, or if you love casual entertaining, bar stools add to that open casual atmosphere, inviting people to stay and chat awhile, as the cook is occupied.  Cushioning your bar stools will make them that much more comfortable for everyone.

Cushions for metal bar stools can be purchased at any department store or home center.  They traditionally have ties that attach to the back of the stool, or some have a non-slip rubber surface on the bottom of the cushion.  There are also other ones that have an elastic band that fits around the underside of the stool seat, or ties with a draw string.  This type of cover/cushion is for those stools without backs.  Leather bar stool cushions may be more expensive but are very durable and easy to maintain with consistent effort.  Many families with small children eating meals prefer the vinyl which is easy to wipe up and stays virtually spot-free.

If you really want to go all out and love crafting, you can make your own cheap outdoor bar stool cushions, with the help of the perfect fabric, some batting cut to fit, and a sewing machine.  The above materials, of course, are readily available at a fabric store or craft outlet.  The cushions with back ties are the easiest to make, and can be filled with poly-fill, or a form-fit piece of latex or foam.  If you have wooden backless stools, simply place cut-to-fit batting or foam on the seat, and place fabric over the seat, using decorative tacks to tuck under and pull taut.  Place a tack about every inch around underside of the seat.  An easy way to keep fabric cover centered is to place second tack opposite the first, third next to the first, fourth next to the second, and so on, moving across and around the bottom of the seat.

Whichever route you take, you are sure to enjoy your warm kitchen’s atmosphere for years to come.

Folding Bar Stools

November 18th, 2009

A bar stool with folding seat is a very space-efficient furniture that you can use to furnish your home bar. As compared to the standard folding chairs, they are more elegant-looking and very versatile. They can be practically integrated in any areas of your home, whether indoors or outdoors. The outdoor folding stools are typically made from either wood or metal. The iron ladder-back black folding bar stool with attractive seat pads will perfectly match a contemporary garden design, whereas teak or bamboo stools are more ideal for a casual backyard with pool.

The best thing about folding stools is the fact that you can easily store them by simply removing the seat pads, folding the stool, and then stacking then on the garage or any available storage space. Unlike the traditional chairs, they do not cover a significant amount of space thus making them an ideal choice for home owners who wants to maximize their space. Aside from that, they are also lightweight and you can easily put them away during heavy rains or snowy seasons.

As for those looking for additional indoor seating, folding stools are the most affordable solution. Rather than renting extra chairs during parties or special occasions, you can simply stack folding stools on your garage and then use them with the need arises. In addition, you can also use them as an alternative to bulky kitchen stools that often obstruct an already tight kitchen space. Most indoor folding stools are produced from attractive aluminum or chrome finish to make them look more visually appealing. Furthermore, they are available in varying heights and sizes. Standard folding stools are often high enough to conveniently permit you to have an easy conversation with standing guests.

When selecting folding stools, there are a few things that you have to keep in mind. First, determine how many stools you will need. This is important since some manufacturers provide big discounts in bulk purchases. Next, make sure to choose a stool that will allow you to conveniently access the bar counter. Never purchase a stool that is either too low or too high.

Look into well-known brand names, such as the ikea folding bar stool, to ensure a quality purchase. Take time to shop around to compare different brands, models and types of folding stools. Doing so will help you find the best one. It took some effort for me to find the right ones to put next to my mini bar fridge when not in use. Scour online shopping sites to find affordable deals and great discounts on folding stools.

Keep these simple tips in mind to purchase the stools that will seamlessly complement your home interior. Create an inviting and cozy bar space with the addition of functional and space-saving folding stools!
