Hardwood floors are still the top choice when it comes to durability and natural beauty. They can be conveniently integrated in living rooms, dining areas, family rooms and other parts of the house. In general, they can be bought as pre-finished or unfinished plank woods and traditional strips. If you are planning to buy the unfinished ones, it is best to leave the work with a professional hardwood floor installer. This is because unfinished wood floors require sanding and it can be an incredibly dusty work. Additionally, it will require proper sanding techniques to prevent visible marks and ridges on the floor.

The pre-finished types are ideal for those who want to install the hardwood flooring on their own. Remember that the wood floors should be laid on a smooth, clean, leveled and structurally sound flooring base to ensure a successful installation. Before you commence with the hardwood floor installation, you need to first stack them indoors for a few days in order to allow the wood to adjust with the home’s humidity level. Next, carefully plan how to install hardwood floor on the area. When installing hardwood floors, be sure that they will be placed perpendicular to the floor joists.

When you are ready to install the hardwood floor, the first thing to do is to get rid of the existing flooring, carpeting, padding, and all other unnecessary flooring materials. Make sure to thoroughly sweep the area before installing pre finished hardwood floors. This is required to free it from all kinds of debris.

Whether you are installing bamboo hardwood floors or other types, removing the baseboard will make the installation much easier. Next, be ready to place the foam under layer. The under layer will provide cushion to the pre finished hardwood flooring planks. Start rolling out the under layer, turn it over and remove the protective paper on the adhesive so you can apply it firmly on the floorboards.

After which, place one plank of pre-finished wood floor on one corner of the room, then fit the next plank securely on the groove of the first one to create a solid row across the room. Do the same with the other planks until one row is complete. You may need to cut some planks to fit them snugly on the wall. Place the succeeding rows in line with the grooves of the first ones. Repeat the process on the other rows until you have fully installed all the wood floors. Cut wood floor planks as necessary to accommodate fixtures, and piping.

Keep these simple steps in mind when installing hardwood floors. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure that every plank will be securely placed on the floor. These will definitely improve the overall look of your home, while creating a more conducive living space for your family!
