Plantation shutters are becoming much more popular with home owners these days. They look very classic and can certainly add to the overall appeal of any living room or bedroom. Unfortunately, the cost of installing wood plantation shutters is sometimes far too high for people to afford, especially if they’re planning on installing interior window shutters in many different windows. There is alternative however.

Vinyl plantation shutters can also look very classic when installed in windows. White vinyl plantation shutters are a very popular choice. They look great, and can make a room look very fresh and clean. They also have the added benefit of matching whatever décor are you currently have in your room. It also makes it very easy to buy new living room furniture, lay down new rugs, or new carpet without having to worry about changing your window treatments at the same time because white matches with basically anything.

While wood shutters can look very nice, but you do have to  be careful about installing them if you live in an area where humidity levels are high during any time of the year. Humidity can cause the wood to swell, crack and warp. For this simple reason alone many people prefer vinyl shutters.

Vinyl shutters are also extremely easy to care for. They simply need to be dusted once a week; if they get soiled you can wipe them off with a damp cloth as needed. Vinyl does not fade when subjected to bright sunlight either whereas wood can sometimes fade.  You do sometimes have to  be careful with vinyl shutters in very bright sunlight, as some can yellow slightly when exposed to too much sunlight depending on how they have been treated.

Perhaps the greatest plus with vinyl shutters is that they are usually much cheaper to buy than wood shutters. This means that while you may not be able to afford brand-new plantation shutters for your entire living room you can often afford to install vinyl shutters. Just because they are cheap however, does not mean that they look any less classy than wood shutters.

In summary, if you are not able to afford wooden plantation shutters or if you live in an area where there is high levels of humidity you may want to consider installing vinyl plantation shutters instead.
