There are many reasons to install lighting along or around your driveway or entrance to your home. The most function reason is safety. We’ll look at a couple of reasons why driveway lighting can help keep you, your family and your home a little safer.
Many of us work long hours and are returning home at the end of the day in the dark. While our car headlights may provide light, once you are out of the car you can often be approaching the entrance of your home in complete darkness. If your car is not parked immediately at your front door that has an outdoor or porch light, then you could benefit from lights illuminating your driveway. Not only does this lessen the risk that you could trip and fall on something on your way to the door, but it is also giving you the opportunity to see the otherwise dark spaces surrounding you. Worst case scenario is that these spaces could hide unwanted intruders.
While we all appreciate privacy from our neighbors, having driveway lighting can allow your neighbors to keep a watchful eye on your home while you are not there. Unknown people could be deterred from wandering onto your property if it is well lit and in the view of neighbors.
Driveway lighting left on timers while you are away from home makes it look like your home is occupied. Coupled with a few hanging light holders on timers this could seriously deter burglars from your home. This is a great idea if you are away over long periods of time. If you don’t have timer switches perhaps a neighbor could turn them off and on for you while you are away.
Some driveway lights may be put on to a sensor system. This means that once someone enters your driveway, either by car or on foot, the lights are switched on. This can alert you inside, or even your neighbors next door, that someone is arriving. It could give you the advanced opportunity to look to see who is arriving before the approach the entrance to your home.
