If you like entertaining and relaxing then it may be worth considering building a garden deck as they are great for holding dinner parties, relaxing out in the sun or having a safe place for your children to play outside. Garden decking is also great for adding levels to an otherwise flat garden or providing a level flat space in a garden that is very steep.
Different types of wood are used in garden decking construction and each has their own characteristics. The different woods all have different detailing and variation in their colours and appearance. The most popular types of lumbar for garden decking tend to be Iroko, Ipe and Teak.
Iroko tends to be quite a yellowish brown when first laid but after time it turns a lovely chocolate shade of brown. Iroko is used widely in the boat making profession as it is extremely durable and very strong.
Garden decking made from teak is often used around swimming pools and as pathways through the garden as it is a very beautiful wood while still being very durable and stable. Teak does not generally need any additional preservatives or sealants when used as garden decking as its natural qualities do not require any additional chemicals. Teak benches and wood often starts out as a yellow gold colour and has an amazingly straight grain making it a very beautiful wood. However, as it ages the attractive markings turn a wonderful silver grey colour and the wood becomes highly distinguishable.
One of the hardest woods to be found in the world is Ipe wood. Ipe wood is known to have three times the strength of oak so is a great type of wood to use in any kind of construction project. The strength this wood alongside the fact that it is relatively cheap considering its characteristics make it a great wood for building a garden deck.
